The Archos 9 Internet Tablet is is running Windows 7 (Starter Edition) and it is a
really nice tablet, but it lacks in performance. The Archos 9 weighs about 1.8 pounds and it measures only
0.7 inches thick. The build quality is good, it feels sturdy and comfortable. It's got a 8.9-inch
resistive touchscreen, a stylus and a kick stand. The stand is handy whenever you want to watch a
video or surf the web without holding the tablet.
The Archos 9 comes with Windows 7 Starter and its 1.2GHz Intel Atom Z515 processor and 1GB of
RAM.Because the 8.9-inch, 1024 x 600 display uses a resistive display instead of
capacitive, it doesn’t support multitouch gestures (like pinch-to-zoom). That’s why the Archos
9 runs Windows 7 Starter Edition instead of the more touch-friendly Premium version (You need to
install Windows Home Premium or Professional in order to upgrade the performance of the tablet). You
really need to use the stylus to be able to minimize the windows, to surf the web and to scroll the
page.
Also, another issue with the Archos 9 is the poor keyboard experience. You need to type very slowly in
order for the device to keep up with you. The keyboard doesn’t automatically pop up when you click on a text field. You have to
manually open and close it when you’re done typing.
The
Archos 9 is a decent tablet, but you have to do a few upgrades in order to have a good and efficient
internet tablet.

left/right mouse buttons complement the virtual keyboard, so that your regular mouse controls aren't left
aside.

The Archos 9's form and design breaks the
rules of the conventional laptop design. Its edges fan out from an already thin structure (0.67 inches or 17
